William Rast

Spring 2009 Ready-to-Wear

Flannel shirts, studs, ripped jeans, and leather jackets are some of the unmistakable bellwethers of grunge fashion. In William Rast's 2009 Spring Ready-to-Wear collection, I could not help but be intrigued by these and other grunge elements such as the frayed boots, silver cowl neck scarves, studded and leather vests, menswear jackets, and extra large t-shirts. I love the crinkled leaves that cover the runway and the way a flapper dress is worn in the 11th picture. I think this collection is perfect for ready-to-wear and any of these looks can easily be converted from day to night.

On another note, William Rast, played by Justin Timberlake, and Erin Wasson are lovebirds on the run from the police in the fall winter 2008/09 advertising campaign for the denim line founded by Timberlake and Trace Ayala in 2006. The print and web shorts are entitled, My Name is William Rast, with Timberlake co-writing, co-directing and composing the score. To view the complete gallery and shorts click here. These are some pictures from the campaign...

Thank you all for your lovely thoughts! I am definitely feeling better.
You all are wonderful
xoxo

Its making spring a tad dismal..you know, making you feel ok that I can DIY and thrift even more. Sorry if that sounds depressing..but you do wonder if the economy is in the crapper even in fashion world. & true recycling fashion and making it affordable is always key. I can't afford any of these designers anyway. Yet, it makes me feel good I can roll up my cutoffs put on my boots and be on my way this spring.

Thank you so much for your note too.

Ellie - I do agree in a way. Yet, I feel inspired by designers such as Rast to DIY and thrift. It shows a different side to the fashion world. Not everything needs to be pristine and clean cut. They can make grunge look beautiful and couture in a sense. I can't either afford to have an entire wardrobe of designer clothing, but this collection says to me that I can DIY and still make it look almost just as good as whats on the runway.

Thanks for the comment :)
