We are seeing ripped tights everywhere! I was sporting this trend when I was 10 years old and I accidentally ripped my stocking while both trying to get on the school bus and carrying my artwork and books. A rip in my tights in grade school was like the world was coming to an end. I would run to my bathroom cabinet and find clear nail polish to coat the run and stop to from tearing even more.

And now look where we are, in the year of 2009 where people drive BMW'S like they are Fords and you can access the internet and call people all on a computer or a phone that is the size of your thumb, and people are deciding to rip there tights....on purpose! I would like to ask what has the fashion world come too, but then I find myself actually becoming a fan of this trend.

To an extent...

I think that ripping your tights can either look chic or just plain ol' cheap. I think that if your are going for that grungy look, do not attack your tights. One or too thin runs all the way down the tight should do the trick. I think that multiple rips and holes and tears tend to look sloppy. And that thing where people cut holes in their tights using scissors, so that their tights end up looking like swiss cheese...now that's just stupid.

I am sorry to say that I am a hypocrite though. I have broken my own rule (well before I made up my own rule) and have worn tights that I shredded to bits to make then look like the ultimate grunge tights. Remember these baby's? Yeah, I'm totally a hypocrite. But now that I have made up this rule for myself, I will so never do that again.

As for laddered stockings, they're tres tres chic. Almost always. That's all I gotta say about that trend.

Yes, ripped tights are awesome. Despite the fact that it was, and still is improper in some parts of this world. I agree with what you said, too many rips and you'll look cheap.

Ooh I like them!!
But, like you said, it all depends on how it's done. If you completely attack them, they're liable to look cheap. But if you go easy on them, the look it's flawless :)

I'm liking ripped tights! The second photo is quite extreme but she pulls it off so well T^T

I guess the thing that's going on in ripped tights is the extra dimension of asymmetry and uniqueness, which is why it's so fascinating :P

I hate ripped tights on myself...but I suppose I will deal with them since I just ripped a pair on accident...

Mmmm I love ripped tights to pieces :D
And I completely agree with the swiss cheese predicament. Sometimes, undestated rips say the most.

Hello dear. I couldn't find your email on your blog, thus the comment. Random much, but this, a tee from threadless.com, reminds me of you :P

To be entirely honest, I am not really a fan of ripped tights. Whilst I enjoy seeing some of the more deliberate holes and shreddings on certain looks, seeing a track or two makes me wonder whether it was accidental lol. Anyhow, hope you are having a beautiful weekend dear :)

I love the first girl, her dress is wonderful. I like ripped tights on other people but the thought of ripping up my own tights on purpose pains me too much, I do it far too often by accident already! xx

Those stockings are awesome and so easy to get!

Ripped tights are quite the tough accessory to get right; like you said, they are quite easy to get wrong, or look entirely chic!

Hah, ripped tights are totally rock and roll! I have to love them since there is no way a pair of tights will ever live life with me unscathed.

Hm, i'll have to give it a second thought before throwing out my tights next time they get a run in them!

So cool..Madonna comes to mind though..not sure why. Now how about boy briefs (old school) rolled at the bottom. Shirt open..exposing lacy bra..Only she could pull that off in Desperately Seeking Susan..I guess..its still HAWT for summer..after all these years. & nobody could wear that bow like she could.

Ripped tights are so fun to wear but you're right about have too many holes or rips that it just looks really bad. I like the way the first girl wore her tights! xxoxoxo

I love how you compare ugly ripped stockings to swiss cheese. I actually LOL'd -- gah I'm so dorky.

Anyways I do love ripped tights too but I'm always scared of making them look tacky. I actually snagged one of my black tights so I was thinking of ripping them but kinda hesistate too.

Your blog layout is looking great might I add! And I saw on your blog you posted KINGS OF LEON. Hell yes! (L)

Ok I'll stop ranting! TTYL
